Today, Shanghai StarKids Children's Hospital (Xinhongqiao Branch of Children's Hospital of Fudan University) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai Normal University, launching the "Protecting Children Together, Shaping the Future" school-hospital coordination plan.
Combining clinical medical resources with the research and education strengths of a university, the two sides will work together in the field of child and adolescent mental health and explore a new service model. Representatives from Shanghai New Hongqiao International Medical Center and the Fosun Foundation attended and witnessed the signing.
Answering the call of the times
Child and adolescent mental health is a major concern for families and society. In recent years, related issues have appeared at younger ages, and demand for professional services keeps rising. The National Health Commission has designated 2025–2027 as the "Year of Pediatric and Psychiatric Services," calling for coordinated, whole-lifecycle mental-health support.
Vice President Qiu Yafeng noted that deepening mental-health services relies both on clinical frontlines and on academic leadership. Dean Cai Dan of the School of Psychology said policy, society and both institutions' strengths now align — and he expressed full confidence in the partnership.
Three featured studios launched
The two sides unveiled three featured studios — Learning Disorders, ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), and Emotional Disorders — marking the formal launch of the core clinical and research载体 of their coordination. Professors from Shanghai Normal University were appointed as special consultants to the hospital, and the Fosun Foundation awarded the "Youth Star-Heart Guard Plan" advisory team certificate to Professor Cai Dan's team.
Where the clinic meets the academy
Starkids has built a full-cycle mental-health promotion center covering assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, with family-friendly wards and music, art and sandbox therapies. The School of Psychology brings deep expertise in intervention, education support and developmental-behavior research. This is not a start from zero, but the meeting and resonance of two mature professional paths.
Three dimensions of collaboration
- Co-built expert studios integrating medical assessment, diagnosis, psychological intervention and educational support into a "screen–assess–intervene–rehabilitate" solution.
- Joint public education through official science-communication channels, expert talks and offline events to raise public mental-health literacy.
- Academic exchange and talent training, with Starkids becoming a social-practice base for the university's psychology program.
Looking ahead
This partnership answers the national "Healthy China 2030" strategy and the "Year of Pediatric and Psychiatric Services." Through concrete mechanisms, the two sides are building a workable, sustainable school-hospital path — a professional safety net that will give children and teens a firmer foundation for healthy growth.
