For parents of allergic children, daily life often looks the same: a stuffy nose and rubbing eyes with every season change, eczema that never quite clears, coughing through every workout.

Free consultation, this Sunday

To help more families take childhood allergies seriously and act early, the Shanghai StarKids Children's Hospital Allergy & Desensitization Clinic is opening a special public-welfare consultation session, with Chief Physician Wang Zengcheng seeing patients in person — free of charge — to give professional assessment and guidance.

Benefit: Children evaluated in the session who need allergen testing will receive a 30% discount on testing costs.

Who should come

  • Children with allergy symptoms but no identified trigger.
  • Children with clear multi-system allergies that recur and respond poorly to usual care.

Allergy is not "weak immunity" — and won't just "go away with age"

Many people think allergy means a child is "delicate" or has low immunity. In fact, the immune system is over-reacting, attacking harmless things like dust mites, pollen and food proteins. It is the immune system "going off course," not a weak one.

The popular belief that "they'll grow out of it" is the biggest misconception. Childhood allergy follows a clear "atopic march": eczema and food allergy in infancy, allergic rhinitis in the preschool years, and possibly asthma by school age or adolescence. Without proper care, allergy tends to escalate over time.

Find the allergen to avoid detours

When symptoms keep returning and routine care falls short, don't rely on guessing. Our clinic offers both IgE and IgG allergen testing covering 40 common inhaled and food allergens. Testing uses a tiny blood sample (just 0.1 ml of serum) and reports are ready in under 1.5 hours, so the physician can combine results with symptoms for clear interpretation and management advice.

What is "cause-targeted" treatment?

Many parents only know "take medicine to relieve symptoms." That controls symptoms, but allergen-specific immunotherapy (desensitization) is the recognized causal treatment that can block or reverse the natural course of allergy — recommended by the WHO. Proper desensitization eases symptoms, reduces daily medication, keeps benefits long after treatment ends, lowers the risk of rhinitis becoming asthma, and reduces new allergies. Childhood, while the immune system is still maturing, is an ideal window for intervention.
